Do you have struggling readers that need immediate help? Adventure Island is a flexible intervention that can be used after school or during the school day with small groups of students to build their reading skills.

Adventure Island is a reading intervention program that provides intensive support for at-risk readers in grades 1 to 5. Daily 45-minute reading lessons meet the needs of struggling readers and develop the skills that students need to become strategic readers. Adventure Island includes all the key components required by No Child Left Behind for a high-quality reading program. Adventure Island works with any existing school reading curriculum.

Based on the well-researched SFA reading program, Adventure Island has a research base unmatched in education. This program has demonstrated clear success with some of the most challenging students in the United States. Sixteen years of research by some of the finest universities in the country provide unparalleled confidence that this is a program that can reach struggling students.

Adventure Island can be used flexibly, either after school or during the school day.

Instructional Materials
Four different levels of instruction focus on the skills developing readers need:

Alphie’s Lagoon
is for beginning readers with a focus on phonics. Materials include:

  • Daily phonics instructional materials
  • Colorful decodable stories
  • Award-winning school and home videos

Captain’s Cove
is for second-grade readers with a focus on advanced phonics and fluency. Materials include:

  • Advanced phonics instructional materials
  • Engaging lessons structured around authentic literature
  • Videos to model effective reading strategies
  • Valid assessments to track student progress

Discovery Bay/Treasure Harbor
is for third-grade readers with a focus on comprehension, and Treasure Harbor is for fourth-grade and fifth-grade readers with a focus on strategic reading. Materials include:

  • Engaging lessons that focus on key reading-comprehension strategies
  • Motivating teamwork activities to provide lots of practice
  • Videos to bring strategies and skills to life
  • Valid, reliable reading assessments to monitor student progress
